Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel was sworn in on April 12. She replaces Carol O’Brien, who left the office in February to work in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Melissa will serve out the remainder of former Prosecutor O’Brien’s unexpired term, through November 2020, and campaign for the seat after that.

Before coming to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, Melissa served as a prosecutor in the city of Delaware. She’s also served as a prosecutor in Fairfield County and as an Assistant Attorney General. Melissa has been a prosecutor for more than ten years.

Growing up in central Ohio, Melissa graduated from Dublin Coffman High School. She went on to attend Ohio University and Ohio Northern University, College of Law.   Melissa has prosecuted hundreds of felony cases and has experience in management and leading public offices.

Melissa lives in Galena with her husband, Nate, and their daughter, Perri.

We spoke to her and her First Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Rohrer about the transition.
