Liberty Township Trustees voted 2-1 at their Monday 9/16/19 meeting to roll back the fire levy from 5.6 to 3.6 mills for the life of the levy. The levy had passed by 70% of voters in 2017. Trustee Shyra Eichorn indicated later on social media that Liberty Township Fire Department expenses will now exceed revenue. Liberty Township Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 3754 President Scott Simmons put out a statement the following day indicating the rollback will result in cuts of $12million dollars. The Delaware County Prosecutors Office had been contacted regarding the roll back, but had not given their response before the vote was cast.
Also, the trustees voted 2-1 to sever the agreement for Commercial Building Inspections through the City of Powell. It was reported this would remove $130,000.00 from the township budget.
