Why did the chicken cross the road? Probably because it heard an Ed Sheeran song. The U.K.’s Mirror reports that the hens at Yorkshire Farmhouse Eggs lay the most eggs when Ed’s tunes are playing.
Farmers say they tried playing songs from various artists — everything from classical to Justin Bieber — and eventually discovered the birds liked Ed the best. Adrian Potter, who runs the family farm, says Ed’s music keeps the hens “calm and relaxed” as they lay their eggs.
“The music they respond to most positively is Ed Sheeran and they lay more and better quality eggs,” he says. “He was born just down the road in Hebden Bridge and the hens seem to be huge fans — when Ed is playing the hens start laying!”
He adds, “Nobody at the farm calls him Ed Sheeran anymore — he’ll forever be Egg Sheeran around here.”
Adrian says the hens love Ed so much that they follow him around when he starts playing songs like “Thinking Out Loud” or the aptly titled “Little Bird” from a portable stereo. He’s even placed photos of the singer around the farm, which he claims the hens “take a lot of interest in.”
